Give us 5 words that best describe you as an athlete:
Respectful, hardworking, determined, resilient, talented.
Tell us about your best memory of your athletic career:
In 2022, I tried for the first time to qualify for the Maryland Open & Maryland Amateur (AM). I ended up shooting a 81 and, unfortunately, did not qualify. Over the winter season, I put in a lot of work hoping to do better the following year. This year in the pre-qualifier, I ended up shooting -2 under and won the tournament for both the Maryland Open & AM. While playing in the Maryland AM qualifier, going into hole 17 I was two shots back from the cut line. I knew I had to make something happen so I began to play aggressively. I ended up going -1 under through the next two holes and the cut line happened to move down one shot so I qualified. For the round of 32 in match play, I was seeded in the 32nd spot. That meant that I needed to play the #1 seed (and previous year’s winner who plays on Penn State’s golf team). I started off my round against the #1 seed 2 down thru 2 holes and managed to win the match 5 up with 3 holes left to play. Riding back to the clubhouse in the cart, it started to sink in that I had just knocked out the top seed and it was a terrific feeling of accomplishment!
Goals:
My goals are to win an AJGA event, qualify for the US Junior AM and finally to play college golf at a high level and ultimately pursue a career in professional golf.
Anything else we should know?
Despite being a student athlete with a heavy course load and practice schedule, I still find time to volunteer in my community. I devote time to a variety of civic organizations and try to embody the spirit of the game by giving back. In my freshman year, I completed close to 100 hours of community service. I continue to try and help those less fortunate through serving meals at a homeless shelter, The Rescue Mission in Frederick, and programs such as Lunches for Those in Need at my church. One of my most notable contributions, though, is with Special Olympics of Carroll County where I volunteer much of my time working with athletes with intellectual disabilities in golf. I run skills training in the fundamental aspects of the game as well as volunteer my time at the Regional and State Qualifiers. Being a part of the Special Olympics Golf Team has been a truly rewarding experience.
