Tell us about your best memory of your athletic career:
The best memory of my athletic career would be winning my first 5km cross country after the Covid lockdown. I started the race within the top 6 and slowly moved further ahead of the field until I was in second place and then taking the win with 300m to go. I ended up beating some of the fastest girls in Canterbury who I had never beaten before. This was probably the smartest and most efficient race I ever ran. The other best memory of my athletics career would have been in the 1500m at the South Island Championships. The slowest tactical race I have ever ran, and everyone was bunched in a group until I took the lead with 700m to go. It was down to me and one other girl, who was biggest competitor throughout the whole season. She took the lead with 200m to go but I came back with 100m to go and we were sprinting neck and neck to the line. She just got me by 0.63 seconds, but it was still one of the most exciting race I have ran in.
Goals:
My next goals are to continue improving my personal best times in all events I compete in on the track. I would then also like to win more tittles in Canterbury and at the national level in New Zealand. Lastly, I would also like to finish in the top 5 at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships in the 1500m!
Anything else we should know?
I was awarded the Level 2 NCEA Gold Award at Villa Maria, which is the top achieving academic award at my school!
