Why do you want to compete in college:
I really want to experience to team bond and atmosphere that seems to be prevalent within college gymnastics. I enjoy competing elite very much but the team element, where it’s not just you competing on your own, is definitely exciting about college. Additionally, the idea that both school and gymnastics would be together and almost blend would be an absolute dream as sometime it can definitely feel like a battle between gym and school here with them being separate. The college code of points allows you to have a high level of difficulty but really be able to benefit from good and precise execution scores also.
What are your gymnastics goals:
To score 48 in all around, win a national medal and get a beam d-score of 5.0. I want to keep on improving on every single piece and keep enjoying travelling, competing and training with my team. I want to gain more competition experience with the college scoring system and help my team as much as possible in the championships.
What makes you different:
I’m a very determined and motivated person in both academics and my gymnastics. I only started training the elite pathway in 2017/18 and prior to that I was in recreational classes so both my coach and I had to work very hard to catch up but we managed it. I think I have a good balance between the bubbly side of me and the hardworking, determined one when we are training. I hope to bring my positive attitude to the team making sure I’m an enjoyable person to be around both in and outside the gym.
What is your favourite event and why:
I would probably have to say floor, just because it’s my favourite to compete. In training, it always feels like there’s an endless possibility of skills I could learn, especially with the caliber always increasing. Floor allows you to use so many different skills and strengths in one with dance, leaps, spins and tumbling, both forward and backwards. There’s no better feeling than sticking a tumble dead in your floor routine as well!
