Why do you want to compete in college?
I would love to compete in college gymnastics as it gives me the opportunity to continue to participate at a sport I love within an elite group of like-minded people. To continue to challenge myself not only academically but within the sport. I enjoy watching the team spirit and energy of the college girls, how they promote individuals not just from their own team. The way the colleges work to aid the community and are involved in grass roots sports is something I am keen to be involved with as I believe that the gymnastics community should be available to all and the lessons we learn support us in the future.
What are your gymnastic goals?
To be an all-American, to be a national champion, to score a perfect 10, to be part of a national champion team, to be an honours student, to support my teammates and to continue with my elite career.
What makes you different?
I am a fun, bubbly and dynamic individual (I will ask random questions). I started at this level of gymnastics at the age of 8 and I have worked hard to reach where I am. During this journey I received a severe facial injury resulting in emergency surgery from a fluke accident on vault – it did not stop me, instead all I wanted was to be back in gym and was back flying through the air, within 3 weeks. I have occasional broke my foot and received some small stress fractures from growing very quickly but went to the gym and worked upper body along with bars; areas that I could while supporting my teammates. I believe everyone should be able to try to reach their dreams and be fully included within a sporting community. I don’t only want to succeed but want everyone around me to succeed regardless of how big or small.
What is your favourite event and why?
This is now a difficult question to answer as I have grown to love all the pieces for various reasons. If I had to choose, I would say vault or floor as I love the idea of flying through the air under my own power and control. It is exhilarating being able to twist and turn while knowing I can land this.
