Interview

Give us 5 words that best describe you as an athlete:

Dedicated, talented, driven, smart, sportsman

Tell us about your best memory of your athletic career:

During the Moray Open in my second match, I was playing against a professional who had played on both the Asian Tour and Korn Ferry Tour for 6 years. I was 5 down after 9 holes. I had my brother on the bag and he told me as the wind picked up, I would be able to come back into the game as my opponent struggled to control his ball flight. As the wind picked up and holes went on, I started to pick up crucial birdies as my opponent started to make bogeys struggling to control his accuracy and length in the wind. Using my experience playing a lot of links golf, I managed to birdie 15,16 and 17 against a strong headwind, which left the match all square down the last. I managed to play a knock down 3 wood straight down the middle which ran on the hard links ground leaving me in position A. My opponent seemed nervous and resorted to a driver which he aimed left scared of the out of bounds right and hit one into the pot bunkers down the left. I was left with a 120 yard pitch into an elevated green with an audience surrounding. The pin was tucked back left behind a bunker but knowing my opponent would have to lay up out the bunker I played for the center of the green and the two-putted. My opponent hit it on the green in 3 and missed his putt for par. He then surprisingly shook my hand and gave me my two-putt and therefore the match. For me this was a turning point in my competitive golf career as I had always been one to let my head go down so to claw back from 5 down at the turn and to win on the last was a big breakthrough in my own mental game. It made me realize that it is never over till it is over.

Goals:

I would like to have a career around golf whether this be on the coaching or business side or even in the scientific or mechanical side, especially as the game of golf seems to be becoming more science orientated as every season takes place.

Anything else we should know?

I have always been athletic and have represented my school in many sports such as tennis, football and cricket. I also represented my county in cricket for a period as a junior.
