Tennis Spring season kicks off
The first week of February generally is the week when the men’s and women’s tennis teams start their spring season, which culminates with the National Championship in May. On the men’s side, the University of Virginia is going into the Spring leading the national ranking, followed by Wake Forest, Ohio State, Calinfornia, and North Carolina. The Cavaliers are already off to a flying start having beaten Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Louisville to start the season. Next up this weekend is the big showdown with the Florida Gators, who are currently ranked 6th in the country.
On the women’s side, the ranking is lead by the Florida Gators, followed by North Carolina, Pepperdine, Stanford and Oklahoma State. The Gators are also off to a 3-0 start and just beat Pepperdine 5-2 this past weekend in a big early season matchup. Both, on the men’s and women’s side, most of the highest ranked teams are not headed to the National Team Indoor Championships, taking place in New Haven, Connectictut for the women and in Charlottesville, Virginia for the men.
We at College Sports America look forward to another exciting semester of college tennis and will keep you guys updated on all the important results and news all the way up to the national championships!
